The mission of the Spare Some Change Mentoring Program is to engage, enlighten, and empower homeless kids to create change in their lives and to provide direction toward a stable future within mainstream society. It is our belief that when you tap into a kid’s imagination, expand their creativity, and fuel their passion; amazing, unprecedented things are given the opportunity to manifest.

By working directly with the kids on a weekly basis, the Spare Some Change team has been able to provide assistance with street outreach - supplying basic needs like food, clothes, sleeping bags and hygiene products; as well as getting kids into rehabilitation facilities, helping them get their ID cards, getting them to a doctor, dentist or HIV clinic for testing, reconnecting them with family members and assisting with job applications and resumes.

ARTISTIC MENTORING OUTREACH

Collaborating with local and national non-profits, Spare Some Change is implementing arts related programs at local drop-in centers.

  • Acting classes - weekly classes held at local drop-ins where kids can begin to explore the craft of acting and understanding human behavior;
  • Music classes - inviting in vocal coaches for singing lessons, providing instruments and instructors for guitar and piano lessons;
  • Artistic Workshops - inviting local artists, theatres, production companies, film studios, and musicians to host workshops where the kids can explore the own capacity and creativity within the arts;
  • Mentoring Program - Kids that are interested in the area of entertainment are assigned a Creative Mentor and given the opportunity to work hands-on with Directors, Composers, Choreographers, Photographers, Writers, etc.
  • The Mentorship Program continues to grow with a constant stream of creative professionals (writers, directors, producers, artists and musicians) as well as business professionals (therapists, trained outreach workers, life coaches and doctors) that are signing up to work directly with the kids.
